Volumetric 3D Models

At Ilumbra, we focus on creating scientifically accurate models of astronomical objects, for use in planetariums, print and digital media and with our custom viewer, Iluvia.

We have dozens of volumetric models that will be perfect for your next project. Whether this be a press release, movie, planetarium show or academic lecture, we can provide you with the 3D models you need. If you can’t find the object you want, we can make it for you!

To get a feel for our volumetric models, you can explore our 'Model of the Day' on the left by using your mouse to rotate and zoom the object. If you wish to explore all our models at your own pace, please download our free viewer, Iluvia.

Animations

The volumetric models we develop at Ilumbra can be used both interactively in the dome or for creating non-interactive animations. Animations are great for other media such as movies, computer games, and websites to name a few. The resolution of animations can also be much higher than that of interactive dome presentations, and static models can even be made dynamic (think exploding supernova).

At Ilumbra we can either provide you with the models such that you can make your own animations (using your software of choice, e.g. Unity, Iluvia), or we can create them for you. Please contact us so we can discuss your project and provide you with a quote.

High Resolution Models

Our standard volumetric 3D models consist of DDS-Format data cubes at resolutions of 256³ and 512³. The complexity of some models might require higher spatial resolutions for optimal visualization. If your system is capable of handling higher resolution or the models is suitable for nesting several volumes at different spatial scales, the limitations may be overcome. Please consult with us about these options for your model. We will be happy to prepare a quote for this resolution enhancing service.
